Armenia born soprano Liana Aleksanyan started her musical career at the age of 9 with piano lessons at the Mirzoyan Music School. With 16 she became a voice student at the S. Danielyan Academy, where she also appeared in minor roles as a member of the opera studio.
In 2000, Ms Aleksanyan took up her voice studies at the Komitas Conservatory in Yerevan, completing her degree with distinction in 2005. Additionally, she participated in master classes given by Dante Mazzola at La Scala, Milan. During her years of study, she appeared at the Armenian National Theatre in Yerevan and was awarded 3rd prize in the "Concours International de Chant" in Toulouse. In 2007, she was a finalist in the "Competizione dell’opera" in Dresden.
Ms Aleksanyan made her first stage experiences in Europe as Fiordiligi (COSI FAN TUTTE) at the Opera de Bauge Festival/France, in the title role of MANON LESCAUT at the Oslo Opera and the Linz Theatre, and as Contessa(LE NOZZE DI FIGARO) at the Vienna Volksoper. In the 2006/2007 season she made her debut with the Braunschweig Theatre as Violetta (LA TRAVIATA), later successfully returning as Gilda (RIGOLETTO) and Mimì (LA BOHEME).
From 2008 to 2010 she was a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater in Braunschweig, where she took roles like Amelia (SIMON BOGGANEGRA), Desdemona (OTELLO), Tatjana (EUGENE ONEGIN) and Lucia (LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR). From 2010 to 2013 she was contracted to the Aalto Theater in Essen where she gave Pamina(THE MAGIC FLUTE), Fiordiligi and Donna Anna, Adina (L´ELISIR D´AMORE), Antonia (LES CONTES D´HOFFMANN), Violetta Valéry (LA TRAVIATA) and Amalia (I MASNADIERI).
Guest engagements have taken Liana Aleksanyan to many venues in many roles, including Deutsche Oper Berlin (Mimì/LA BOHÈME), Staatsoper Stuttgart (Luisa Miller/LUISA MILLER), Macerata Opera Festival (Aida/AIDA), Teatro Colón, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia Valencia, Sugi Opera Company Seoul, Nationaltheater Mannheim and Stadttheater Klagenfurt (Cio-Cio-San/MADAMA BUTTERFLY), Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (Iolanta/IOLANTA), Deutschen Oper am Rhein (Micaëla/CARMEN; Donna Anna/DON GIOVANNI; Cio-Cio-San/MADAMA BUTTERFLY), Oper Köln (Mimì/LA BOHÈME; Cio-Cio-San/MADAMA BUTTERFLY), Komischen Oper Berlin (Violetta Valéry, Antonia and Mimì) and Hamburgische Staaatsoper (Lucia, Violetta Valéry, Micaëla und Blanche/DIALOGUES DES CARMELITES).
In the 2016/2017 season she gave her housedebut as Cio-Cio-San (MADAMA BUTTERFLY) at the Teatro alla Scala.
Liana Aleksanyan has been a guest soloist several times with the German Radio Philharmonic of Saarbrücken in Kaiserslautern and with the Staatsorchester of Braunschweig.
